- Q?Helpful Hints: What things can I do to get the most out of my upcoming project?
-
A.
Map Out Your Ideas
When starting your project, it is important that you organize or map out your ideas. Doing so gives you an opportunity to see the direction your project will take and even help with understanding how long it will take to complete. Write down any and all ideas that seem important. You can always remove the items that you no longer need during this process.
Sketch Out Your Design
One of the most important things you can do for your project, is to sketch it out. You don’t have to be artistic in the design, but it will give you a clear view of what to ask your graphic designer for. Besides, having a sketch handy will help your designer see your vision much clearer as well.
Plan Ahead
In today’s world, things come quickly for us. But your project shouldn’t be one of them. Planning it out gives you more control on the overall look and feel. It also ensures that your not putting out material or showcasing a website that may have missing information. It’s easier to catch your mistakes when planning your project.
Set A Target Date
Knowing how much time you actually have when drafting your project will help save you from headaches and many sleepless nights. Rushing a project to completion is never a good idea. All successful businesses organize, plan and schedule their projects ensuring a prosperous run. You should do the same.
Invest In Better Photos
Technology has certainly changed over the past 10 years. Now anyone with a phone can take pictures. But when you are marketing your project, fuzzy, pixilated, shaky images from your camera phone should not be your first choice. Clarity speaks for itself. Most photographers are willing to work with your budget if you ask. I know we do, “Shameless Plug”, yet it’s true. But if a photographer is not in your budget, a digital camera certainly is. Today digital cameras have a clarity of 10 Megapixels or more, which means very crisp, clean images. So take time out to schedule a photo session or buy a camera.
Seek Input
Every so often, we gather our ideas and head out on the road to creation, leaving behind all of our principles when it comes to planning ahead. It’s always good practice to bounce your ideas off people not associated with your project. Create your own test market to help eliminate or add ideas you may not have seen yourself. Remember, you are not the only consumer of your project.
Know Your Target Audience
It’s important to know the consumer base your trying to reach. In other words, there is no need to campaign to a group of individuals you know aren’t going you use your services. Example. You’re a club promoter. You just received your new batch of flyers promoting a night of entertainment. You decide to canvas the area placing your material on cars parked at a convention. Looks like a good idea at first. But if you researched the conventions in the area, you would have informed yourself that you just left a parking lot full of flyers at a gospel event. Know your target audience. Doing so will save you a lot of time and money.
